If you’re like many people, you want your face to look younger, more refreshed and full of life – but you’re dealing with the effects of aging, which is our common enemy. Is there such a thing as facial rejuvenation without surgery, and could it be right for you? This guide explains.
Let’s Talk About Facial Rejuvenation
As our faces age, we lose skin elasticity and tone (the tone comes from the collagen and muscular structure beneath our skin). These are both natural occurrences – but it’s possible to fight them with certain non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques. First things first, though: You absolutely have to take care of your skin, and you can do that by using the right cleansers and moisturizers. (If you’re not sure what you should be using, talk to your doctor – she’ll be able to recommend the right products for you.)
With that said, there are a number of specialty treatments that your doctor may recommend based on your skin type, your age, and how dramatic you want your results to be. Some of those treatments may include:
- Laser skin treatments
- Microneedling
- Platelet-rich plasma
- Chemical peel treatments
Here’s a closer look at each.
Laser Skin Treatments
there are a number of lasers that can treat your skin, including those that work on acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and discoloration. Laser treatments generally use microscopic beams of heat to stimulate your body’s own cells. That can thicken the collagen under your skin, which improves your skin tone, texture and elasticity.
Microneedling for Facial Rejuvenation
Microneedling triggers new collagen production without any risk of permanent scarring. With microneedling, you’ll enjoy smoother, younger looking skin – and it can even help fade scars. In fact, some people use this treatment on stretch marks to improve their appearance. It works on acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and it helps to minimize pore size, as well.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatments
Platelet-rich plasma is an excellent way to rejuvenate your facial skin. In this process, your doctor takes a small vial of blood from you (it’s less than what you’d give for a routine blood test at a lab). Then, your blood is placed in a vial that’s spun in a centrifuge; that concentrates your platelet count and enables your doctor to separate red blood cells from plasma. Finally, your doctor activates and injects the platelet rich plasma into your skin, or applies it topically, to begin the treatment process.
Chemical Peels for Younger, Fresher-Looking Skin
A chemical peel can improve skin tone and texture, as well as diminish fine lines. This type of treatment removes the outer layers of skin that have been damaged over time, and it enables your body to generate a new layer of skin cells that are healthy, radiant and hydrated. Chemical peels can be mild or deep, depending on your needs, and these treatments are fast; they usually take between 15 and 30 minutes to apply.
Botox® Treatments
Botox treatments for the face can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and the procedure is typically painless and fast. By temporarily weakening certain muscles in your face, Botox can give you a smoother facial appearance that makes you appear younger and more refreshed. Your doctor may also recommend Intradermal Botox, which works by targeting the muscles that are responsible for opening your pores. This type of treatment makes your skin tighter, smoother and more refined.

IPL Photorejuvenation
IPL photorejuvenation is often called a photo facial, and it stimulates collagen production in your skin. When that happens, your skin texture improves, your pores appear smaller and fine lines become less noticeable. The entire treatment process is done with a light, and it’s completely painless.
