History

In 1823, history was made in what is now Ypsilanti, Michigan. That year, the settlement of Woodruff’s Grove was founded by John Allen. Recognizing the significance of the moment, it was later renamed after Demetrius Ypsilanti, a hero from the Greek Revolution of 1821. In 1829, it became an official village and then built up even bigger to become a city in 1858.

It is served by three great public school districts that allow its citizens to choose education for their children according to their preferences and needs. These districts are Ypsilanti Community Schools, Ann Arbor Public Schools, and Plymouth-Canton Community Schools.

The majority of the township is covered by Ypsilanti Community Schools; additionally, Willow Run Community Schools were incorporated into Ypsilanti Community Schools in 2013 due to its proximity within the township.
